Everton have completed the loan move of Neal Maupay to Marseille with an obligation to buy, with the forward having entered the
final year of his contract at Everton and having not played in the first two Premier League games of the season.
He had been linked with a move to Marseille since last week. But an agreement was reached before the window closed, meaning Maupay will now move back to France.
The 28-year-old will initially join Marseille on a loan deal that will be converted into a permanent deal next year. It is believed to be around £6m in total. And there are conditions that could increase the fee to £10m later.
The Frenchman spent last season on loan at Brentford, where he scored eight goals in 31 appearances.
He is into the last 12 months of his contract at Goodison Park after signing from Brighton in August 2022.
The move would see the Frenchman join a revamped team in Ligue 1. After the appointment of manager Roberto De Zerbi following his departure from โปรโมชั่น ufabet Brighton this summer.
Maupay would join a host of ex-English league talent, including Mason Greenwood, Jonathan Rowe, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Ismael Kone.
It remains unclear whether Everton will sign a replacement striker. After manager Sean Dyche said the club had ‘no money’ as they seek to complete a takeover.
Maupay started playing for Nice before moving to Saint-Etienne, followed by a move to Brentford in England and scored 41 goals in 95 games.
He was signed by Brighton in 2019 before playing 109 matches and scoring 27 goals. Before moving to Everton in 2022.
However, he scored only one goal in 32 appearances for the Toffees, while last season he was loaned to Brentford and scored 8 goals in 31 games.
